It's raining cats and dogs at Artists in Paradise in the Winn Dixie plaza in Big Pine!

We wanted to honor the homeless kitties at Forgotten Felines this month by donating 10% of the sales from the front window display items to this wonderful organization! I personally have a family member Ollie I adopted from them 12 years ago and he's the best cat ever! If you can, please check them out to adopt a loving cat. If not, please think about donating to help further their cause! This is easy because you can get a gift for someone special while donating at the same time! There are ornaments, jewelry, paintings, tapestries, a sun hat, a cell phone purse, matted prints, canvas photography, cat beds and note cards! These items will be available for the entire month of September! Shop early to get the best selection! Summer hours at the gallery are 10-2 Sunday and Monday. 10-6 Tuesday thru Saturday! We'll see you there!

Here at Forgotten Felines of the Florida Keys Inc, we are driven to do our part in making the world a better place. Forgotten Felines is a non-profit organization established in 1997 by concerned Middle Keys citizens to help homeless and abandoned cats.
Our primary goal is to trap, spay/neuter and treat homeless and abandoned cats.
Programs such as ours have been proven successful at reducing feline homelessness all over the United States and Europe. The mission of Forgotten Felines is to provide veterinary care and food to homeless and abandoned cats in the Middle Keys.
We practice the humane and effective method of TNR: trap, spay/neuter and return. We offer adoption of cats and kittens when available.
Forgotten Felines also strives to educate the public on the importance of proper cat care and assists low-income Middle Keys residents with proper cat care so eventually no cat will be homeless or abandoned.

President/Director

Megan Hughes

I got involved with Forgotten Felines approximately 13 years ago after moving to 105th Street. I started assisting with the trapping process and then began volunteering and helping with trapping cats and fostering. Not long after Hurricane Irma, I partially took over Forgotten Felines and worked hard to create an impact and educate the public. I have since turned my vacant lot into the "cat lot" as it holds the shed where we hold cats for TNR. As well as being the main location, I have taken in kittens and unwanted cats into my gym. I recently reconstructed the Board of Directors and have taking the lead in making Forgotten Felines the best I can. I enjoy music, dancing, animals, and the ocean!

Erin Buckley

As many of us, after hurricane Irma I was displaced from my home but more importantly to me, without pets for the first time in my life. That’s when I learned about Megan’s involvement with Forgotten Felines, I immediately took interest in the program and learning the process to help reduce the feral cat population. After countless encounters of rescuing kittens throughout our community, I thought it would be fun to help TNR the feral cats here in my home town. My passion does not stop at cats but also consists of reptiles and dogs.

Years ago I was volunteering at the FKSPCA in Marathon and I inquired about the cats in the next room that had been brought in with white sheets covering their cages. It was explained to me that a group called Forgotten Felines had brought them and they were feral cats that were here to be spayed and neutered. Shortly thereafter I bought my first trap and the rest is history.

Karen Liskey

I moved to the Keys in 1987 and purchased a home on Grassy Key in 1993. I raised my daughter and son there, both graduates of Marathon High. After moving in I began seeing dozens of cats in the area. I began trapping with the help of a neighbor to get them spayed and neutered. That was the start of my involvement with TNR and when Forgotten Felines was organized I became active trapping with them. I recently moved to Big Pine and have been trapping in my new neighborhood. I work as a Realtor with Key Colony Beach Realty since 1999. I enjoy biking, hiking, fishing, and birdwatching.

Melissa Johnson

Hello there! I am Melissa Johnson 🐾 I'm a dedicated cat lover with a heart full of admiration for our furry feline friends. Ever since I can remember, cats have held a special place in my life, bringing joy, comfort, and endless entertainment.

I have merged my passion for cats and volunteering by dedicating my time to Forgotten Felines.
Spaying and neutering not only help control the population of stray and homeless cats but also contribute to their overall health and happiness. By preventing unplanned litters, we ensure that every cat has a chance to find a loving forever home, where they can thrive and be cherished just like mine.
I'm honored to be a part of this cause, working to make the world a better place for our furry feline friends.
